Durham MP Erin O’Toole named as Official Opposition Critic for Public Safety
Bowmanville – Today, The Hon. Rona Ambrose, Leader of the Official Opposition and Interim Leader of the Conservative Party, announced the appointment of Durham Member of Parliament the Hon. Erin O’Toole, to the position of Shadow Cabinet Critic for Public Safety.
Members of the Opposition Shadow Cabinet are responsible for holding the Government to account in Parliament and for helping develop the Conservative Party’s positions on policy and national issues. MP O’Toole’s experience in cabinet, in the Canadian Armed Forces and as a lawyer provide him with strong experience and perspective for the Public Safety file which includes national security issues, the RCMP, border security and corrections.
“I am pleased to serve as the Public Safety critic to ensure that the safety and security of Canadians remains a priority. I appreciate the confidence shown in me by our Interim Leader and I am proud of the strong team we have representing Canadians in the House of Commons.”
Over 5.6 million Canadians voted for the Conservative Party on October 19, leading to one of the strongest oppositions to a majority government in Canadian history. The Conservatives will form a strong opposition and ensure hard-working Canadians and their families are protected and the country’s finances kept in check.
“I believe the team we have assembled will be the strongest Official Oppositions this country has ever seen,” said Ms. Ambrose. “I am proud to lead this team of talented and respected individuals from across Canada. Together, we will ask the Government the tough questions and hold them to account.”
